Looking to carry his positive momentum into Talladega, Hemric qualified third and looked to be in a comfortable position when contact between Brennan Poole and Daniel Suarez triggered a nine-car fracas on the backstretch heading into turn three that ended the day for several series regulars.
“Everybody is not using their heads early in the race,” Hemric, driver of the No. 21 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, said. “… (It was) just too aggressive. I thought we were able to miss it until the 18 (Suarez) or whoever hit me in the right rear.”
Hemric, who finished 38th, is now two-for-two in superspeedway misfortunes this season — he was involved in a wreck in the season-opening race at Daytona as well and finished 31st.In all, nine cars were involved in the fracas heading into turn three.
Aric Almirola, driver of the #98 Ford, went on to score his first win of the season and third overall Xfinity victory.
