No. 8 Okuma Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Started: 11th
Finished: 18th
Points: 25th
Synopsis:
Daniel Hemric and the No. 8 Okuma Chevrolet had an up-and-down day in the desert. After spending the first half of the race running near the top-15, crew chief Luke Lambert made the call to keep Hemric out while the leaders pitted, and the No. 8 Chevy assumed the lead. Hemric kept it in the top 10 until he was called to pit road for his final stop of the day. But, the final adjustments didn't suit the car. That was compounded by a long green-flag run to the finish, and coupled with less-than-ideal track position, relegated the team to an 18th-place finish.
From Daniel:
"We battled all day with this No. 8 Okuma Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. We took off too loose to start the race, but Luke Lambert and all of the guys on this team kept working on it and got it to where it was fairly connected. I could make a little hay later in the runs, but about the middle point of the run the handling issues started to show up again. We used some pit strategy to stay out and were able to lead some laps, which is always nice. I'm proud of everyone on this team for never giving up and fighting all weekend long to work on this Okuma Chevy. We learned a lot this weekend and look to apply that next week in Fontana to close out this West Coast swing."
