Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-20)
Daniel Hemric started Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International from the third position and finished third in stage one.
Hemric kept his No. 18 Poppy Bank Toyota Supra solidly inside the top five throughout the first stage.
Several cars opted to pit late in the segment, but crew chief Dave Rogers kept Hemric on track for the third-place finish in the stage.
Following the stage, Rogers called Hemric to pit road for four fresh tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment.
Stage 2 Recap (Laps 21-40)
Hemric started 12th and finished 10th in stage two.
Contact from the No. 8 car sent Hemric spinning in turn one on lap 26. After the misfortune, the No. 18 Supra was scored 18th.
Hemric battled back into the top 15 and eventually rejoined the top 10 after the Poppy Bank team chose not to pit during a caution on lap 34.
Hemric held on to finish the second stage in 10th.
The No. 18 team did not pit between stages and Hemric moved into the top five.
Stage 3 Recap (Laps 41-82)
Hemric started the final stage in the fifth position and finished 22nd in Saturday’s race at Watkins Glen International.
As one of a handful of cars with older tires, Hemric stayed inside the top 10 before a caution on lap 48. All of the other leaders pitted during the caution while Hemric stayed on track because the team was not in their fuel window to make it to the checkered flag.
Hemric restarted as the race leader on lap 51 and led until making a green-flag pit stop on lap 56.
Back on track, the Poppy Bank Supra was scored 18th when another caution waved on lap 68. Rogers brought Hemric back to pit road for four fresh tires and fuel for the final 12 laps of the race.
Hemric restarted 16th on lap 71 and was up to 10th when the caution waved on lap 76.
On the final restart with four laps remaining, the Poppy Bank Supra was hit from the inside and Hemric spun in turn one.
Hemric regrouped and finished the day in the 22nd position.
