Race 8: Bristol Motor Speedway
No. 8 Caterpillar/Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Hemric will be making his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at Bristol Motor Speedway. The 2019 Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender has four NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the 'World's Fastest Half-Mile,' earning two top-five and three top-10 finishes with 69 laps led. Hemric also has two NASCAR Truck Series starts at Bristol, scoring two top-five finishes.
As a former short-track racer, how excited are you to get to Bristol Motor Speedway for the first time in a Cup Series car?
"I am pumped to get to Bristol Motor Speedway. That will be one of the longest races of my life - from what everyone tells me. With this new package in place, we're going to be extremely fast. I feel like the lap times are going to be much faster than they were in the past. There is just a little bit of an unknown going into the weekend. I think that will make tire fall-off worse than what we've had there in the past, because of what we're asking out of the tires. The racetrack could get even wider quicker. You always have the variable of how much they spray the bottom groove with the traction compound and how long that lasts. With the corner speeds being so fast, that compound may give up even quicker. There will be a lot going on, but it will be awesome to experience Bristol as a Cup Series driver with Caterpillar and Bass Pro Shops on the side of the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1."
You have had some strong runs at Bristol Motor Speedway in the Xfinity and Truck Series. Can that relate to the Cup Series this weekend?
"I have always loved going to Bristol Motor Speedway. We had a right rear wheel issue late in the race last August in the Xfinity Series race, but someone told me we averaged a fifth-place finish up until that point. I like Bristol and feel like I have always had a pretty good idea about what I need out of the car balance-wise. When we get there this weekend, hopefully we can tune on it and keep up with it as the race goes."
