White flag incident costs Hemric a 16th-place finish

No. 8 CAT Next Gen Excavator Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Started: 20th

Finished: 33rd

Points: 25th

Synopsis:

Daniel Hemric and the No. 8 CAT Next Get Excavator team ran most of the race inside the top 15, and even led for two laps in Stage 3, showing their road racing prowess. However, a lengthy pit stop lost precious track position midway through the segment. Hemric had raced his way back to the 17th position coming to the white flag, when two cars collided in front of him, sending the 41 car spinning down the track and in front of Hemric who could not avoid contact. The track remained green and Hemric had to limp his No. 8 Chevrolet around the 2.28-mile, 16-turn ROVAL with major damage on the right front and a blown right front tire. By the time he made another lap, he was scored in the 33rd position.

From Daniel Hemric:

“That was a rough ending to our day. Certainly not exactly how we saw it turning out for our Caterpillar Next Gen Excavator team but that's the way it goes. I'm still proud of these guys and the effort on the No. 8 team. But, we just lost too much track position there at the end of the race to have a chance to rebound, and got caught up in somebody else's mess. All we can do is keep moving forward and go Dover, which is one of my favorite tracks on the circuit."
